Mom’s Here! And winning week

1. Today’s the day! I’m picking up my mom and my brother this morning instead of going to marketing (oops). Unfortunately, I can’t miss Thermo lab so I will have to say bye to them for about 5 hours this afternoon while they go to UDel for college visits. I doubt it will be as fun as making candy and ice cream in nutrition lab…

It seriously tasted so good!

It seriously tasted so good!

2. I guess that means #1 is my first random thought of Thinking Out Loud. Random lists are one of my specialties which is my main motivation in linking up with Amanda each week. I really wanted to participate in her NEDA week theme, but the words just weren’t flowing. It’s not that I feel like I’m fully “recovered” and I do have bad days here or there (especially during stressful weeks when I can’t run…), I just didn’t know what I wanted to say and I didn’t want to force it.

3. November Project. Amazing as always, kicked my ass per usual. The last Wednesday of every month is Race Day where we do the same workout and mark our progress to see how much we’ve improved. This was my first one so it’s an insta-PR ;) Unfortunately, my calf didn’t love it, but it wasn’t as bad as it has been in the past few weeks.

Cute...

Cute… my deformed leg and half closed eyes. Blame it on the snow in my face

4. Even though it was Race Day, I’m always amazed by how different it is from any other workout I’ve ever done. I don’t feel like people are competing with each other, they’re just pushing themselves to try their hardest and motivate others to try hard as well. It’s really refreshing to be in a place where everyone is genuinely happy for each other. You don’t see that often in today’s world, sadly. There’s always a hidden motive. At NP, it’s just about loving each other and loving the workout. Hugs included.

5. I’m going to DC tomorrow after Pilates with my mom and brother to look at GW. He’s doing a lot of college visits this week. As much as I’d like to say they’re here to visit me, they’re not. I just happen to live in a central location where they can stay for free and steal my car while I’m in lab.

6. I went to a staff meeting at the running store Monday. Being there makes me happy. It looks like I’ll be working again very soon. Plus, I learned so much more about Newtons. I’ve been wanting to give them a shot to try and force myself away from heel striking so the rep offered to send me some. Thrilled is an understatement. And I got pizza. ‘Nuff said.

6b. The Newton Rep also offered to do a one-on-one running session with me to watch my form before she sends me the shoe when it’s released in a couple weeks. Um customer service?

7.  Some people will never fail to amaze me. I guess I missed the boat on appropriate school attire? For some reason, my mizunos and yoga pants just seem so much more comfortable.

8. Massage #3 happened yesterday. I almost cried in pain but this lady knew her stuff. After ‘cupping’ and graston, she put KT tape on my leg and gave me a place to get custom orthotics and a few other things to try. She was an Olympic runner with compartment syndrome years ago. I’m starting to see improvement. I’ve been walking to school when it’s warm enough as my exercise for the day and a week ago I couldn’t do that. It no longer bothers my leg so I’ve made huge progress in a short amount of time. I think the combination of the rest and massages has really made all the difference.

9. Monday was such a winning day for me. Pilates is one of my favorite academic classes. Yes, academic. Then, my gas station friend (aka the owner) paid for my hot chocolate. Classes flew by, the weather was great, and I had lunch at home with my roommate and our friend. I got to GOTR and felt immediately inspired by the girls. Then, my thermodynamics teacher sent an email saying we could pick up our exams, which turned out to be the highest grade I’ve gotten on a chemistry exam since Freshman year (I sent my mom a text in all caps freaking out after)I went to the running store where I learned about Newtons, ate pizza, and got hours for the spring, and went to bed without having any work to do. Winning.

10. Kaitlin sent me the most adorable postcard yesterday. Just what I needed to get through hump day. There’s something about handwritten cards that feel extra special and remind you that someone was thinking of you. I think this needs to become a trend… aka I need to get my butt to the store for postcards.

11. More huge blog opportunities that I’ll be sharing soon! I am beyond excited.

I won’t be around the blog world much today or tomorrow. Or Saturday, for that matter. Gotta make the most of those mom days ;)

Share some randoms!
